bidmas = brackets, indices then division, multiplication then addition, subtraction.


This is the order you do sums. Once you've done all of them you go from left to right. With 1+1+1 x 5 +1 you replace the 1x5 with 5, so it is 1+1+5+1 which is 8.

Terrible explination of BIDMAS, look up 'grade 3 maths' for your answer.
