how to chrome bars

do you mean chrome dip them, or give them a chrome mirror finish?
if they are chromoly they will rust so its not worth it, aluminium can be polished nicely

Quite a bit of work with the sanding unless you have a belt sander and you'll still need a Buffing wheel on a bench grinder and some polishing compound.

1. Sand the metal using 220 grit and stepping up to 600

You'll get close to a mirror finish with sanding

2. Buff/Polish on buffer

3. wipe down with Acetone or denatured alcohol

4. Clear coat.

but as mentioned they still tend to rust even with clear coat....so considering all the work that is required it is not really worth it...but but if you have the tools and time go for it.

You're best bet is to actually get them chromed. You aren't going to be able to get them chromed yourself. Just find someone who will do it.
