Hello everyone , I posted this thread here so that everyone would see it. If I posted it in the scooter mod bible , no one would see it. The tutorial you're about to see is done using words and pictures as I do not have a video camera. If anyone has a video camera , I don't mind if you take a video of you doing and and then putting it on SR. I hope it is easy to understand.
Anyways so before you modify anything , you need to know why you are modifying it. For this modification , you are trying to stop your scooter brake from rattling. To do this , you need to make sure the brake spring has enough pressure on the brake so that is not loose ( allowing it to rattle ) . One way you can increase a brake spring tension is to bend it. However , bending it can be difficult and sketchy. My mod here is to help you increase the brake spring tension without any bending.
Step 1 :
These are the tools you need. They are double sided tape or something similar ( people might call it differently in different countries ) , a wrench and a allen key for your brake bolt and nut , brake , brake spring and a silicone pipe ( blue in the picture below ) .
A close picture of the silicone pipe.
Step 2 :
Take the double sided tape and put the tape in the direction as shown in the picture below. Know that the more layers of tape you put over and over again , the better. I suggest you do about 3 layers and its good. Make sure you put the tape in that direction though.
Step 3 :
Put the silicone pipe onto the part of the brake spring which you have just put double sided tape on and then cut the remaining away.
Push it all the way in so that it looks like :
Depending on how much tension you want , you can repeat step 1 - step 3 again for the other side. Be warned that the more tension you want to put on the brake and brake spring , the harder it is going to be to fix the brake on . NOTE : for me , I only did it on one side because I did not need so much tension on the brake spring so in the picture of the final product , you only see it on one side.
Step 4 :
Now you have the spring ready , whether you did it on 1 side or both , it does not matter. Its time to fix everything back together. I'm sure you all know how to fix a brake back on so I did not take pictures of the process. The final ready product should look like this.
Note : I did this mod only to one side of my brake if you want to have more tension coming from the brake spring , do it to the other side ( I have drawn an arrow pointing to the " other side " ) .
Alright everyone , thats my mod. I hope you all have understood everything well if not tell me and I will try make things easier to understand.
Where To Buy :
brake , brake bolt and spring : Get it off your scooter
silicone pipe : Go to higher end RC ( remote / radio control toy shops ) . These pipes are used to transport fuel from the fuel tanks to engine in fuel powered RC toys [ Nitro ] ).Note : if by any chance any of you are ordering some 24seven parts off me , tell me you want some silicone pipe and I will throw in a reasonable length enough for a few scooters for free. You could also go to online shops but I am not too sure of the size. Its best to go to shops near you and try out the sizes for something which fits tight.
wrench and allen key : Your garage , hardware stores ( home depot , Lowes , etc ) .
Doublesided tape : At home / stationary shop and possibly in hardware shops too.
