Installing a Starnut (for the millionth time)

Usually when this is asked in the normal sections you'll get rediculous answers, so I put it in the Admin section instead. Yes, I've searched and read all the explainations so far, but none have been truly helpful.

I JUST CAN'T DO IT!!!!
I can do every mod on a scooter with ease *broadens chest* except fricken starnuts. I have every size socket there is: metric and imperial, hammers, handlebars, two compression bolts, 3 starnuts, and everything else that you can use for the compression system. However everytime I try, either I hit the starnut in crooked or I ruin the starnut. Can somebody please give me a step by step tutorial (or video doubtfully) for pressing in a starnut and I will be forever greatful.

Isn't that what everybody says not to do? I though you weren't supposed to hit the starnut using the bolt?

Technically you are not supposed to do that but it works if you are careful. I still don't totally recommend it though. Just take it to a bike shop. They have tools to do it.

Last time I took it to my local bike shop they wen't through 2 starnuts and the one they got in was crooked.

Basically. You have to be a pretty incompetent retard to work at a bike shop with all the tools and not be able to do something that simple right.

It's cheaper for me to get 15 starnuts/tries to pound them in, then drive to the closest "real" bike shop. But I might just have to do it, since I'm not getting any help.

carefully tap it in with a hammer and block of wood to get started, then put a large socket wrench socket on the star nut with a long nail thought the center of both (to see when it goes crooked) then tap that with a hammer. keep adding sockets or use a piece of pipe till its in deep enough. tap the opposite sides when it starts to go crooked to one side, and keep checking that its straight and that its not in too deep or shallow. thats what i did (i think)

It's all simple common sense.

The only thing i could see them having trouble with is lacing and truing a wheel. lol

but even then... they have amazing tools for that

^^ lol yeah. you can use every stock part on a scooter as some sort of tool in helping you put stuff on/take stuff off.
