I like the one of the guy kicking back on the porch. Has a kind of lonely feel to it, which is hard to get when you're working with a person as a subject. Has very nice colors to it also. May I ask what you're shooting with?

That one was shot with a Minolta x370. I also have a Minolta QD p&s panoramic, canon t2i, and a couple of these (like that last one) are with my cell phone (samsung gs3) lol.

thats very insightful of you too, thats my dad in the picture. our house is empty since both my sister and i are in college so you might right.

for the action shots, particularly when someones in the air, you should make the shutter speed as fast as you can. some of them have some slight blur

Very nice composition and lighting on that one. You managed to get the sun shining in the background and not have Jon be silhouetted. Also Jon's face is pretty funny :)
