jvc AVCHD problem

i have sony vegas platinum pro 8 studio addition and it wont recognise the avchd, know any solution like decent file converters that are legal and free or another solution?

mpeg streamclip. go to squared5.com and download it.

convert to quicktime, h.264, drag the quality bar to 100%, uncheck interlaced scaling. dont mess with anything else. export
