Living vegetarian/vegan.

Anyone else on here a vegetarian or a vegan? I am a vegetarian, and I have done a lot of research on the subject and it is a much healthier way to live your life. I get a lot of my nutrients from plants, and it definitely has positive affects on health, whereas eating meat does a lot of negative things for your body. Discuss?

I ate a grand total of 13 burger patties today. I'm feeling just fine, someday I may turn to the green side but for now, McDonalds and Burritos everyday.

I guess it's good if you want to grow up sickly and malnourished..?

From what? Lack of BHT and TBHQ? Preservatives in meat increase your chance of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Vegetarians are 40% less likely to die from cancer and 20% less likely to die from other diseases such as heart disease, high cholesterol, and clogged arteries. Since meat has high cholesterol, it increases your chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

Almost 40% of all grain in the world is fed to livestock. It takes 5 lb of grain to feed a cow and make 1 lb of beef. It's a waste. Also, one acre of land could produce 50,000 pounds of tomatoes, 40,000 pounds of potatoes, 30,000 pounds of carrots or just 250 pounds of beef.

Kathy Freston, of AlterNet, conducted a study to show what would happen if the world went vegetarian for one whole day. In her study, she found that the world would save 100 billion gallons of water, 1.5 billion pounds of crops, 70 million gallons of gas, and 3 million acres of land. One interesting statistic shows that if everyone skipped one meal of chicken per week, the carbon dioxide savings would be equivalent to taking half a million cars off the road.

All this is taken from an essay I wrote about Vegetarianism.

i kinda interested in becoming one what would you suggest i do to start?

Find a multivitamin that has a high amount of protein in it before you do anything else. Beans, cheese/dairy, and peanut butter will be your main source of protein. That's pretty much all you have to worry about. If you decide to become vegetarian and you start feeling tired, you need more protein and vitamin B6.

Joe you're talking like all I eat is shitty meat. I only eat organically raised meat from small farms, no hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, fillers, anything. 99% of my diet is completely organic.
I don't like how people think meat is some demonic thing put on the earth.

You could only get certain types of necessary fat (needed for the brain to develop) and certain types of protein from eating meat, is that true? I like meat, but I guess I wouldn't mind being a vegetarian. I dunno. I like both.
