Breaking the rubber off the core has nothing to do with breaking the core.

I know people have broken the cores of the 3 spoke metal cores that Micro had (has?) but that was because the 3 spokes were really small and weak.

everyone ovilizes them (bends the bearing slot, rattly and annoying) a lot of people have dehubbed them (polyurethane pulled apart form the metal)
as far as i know nobody has bent cores, except on eagles which are machined stupidly thin.
