As much as I'd love to agree with all of you and say "Megapixels don't mean anything" I have to disagree. I can not argue with the fact that it doesn't add "quality", nor does it make your photos automatically nicer than before. But, if you have noticed over the years, cameras have started to gain in megapixels. Why is this you ask? Because it does matter. Resolution matters, simple as that. It may not be a huge factor, but it is one to look into. Granted, 4mp should cut it nowadays, but not if your doing anything other than shooting and uploading. Posters need a lot more than 4mp and that's for darn sure. Trust me, having more mp is a huge leisure, and adds a "confidence" to your shooting knowing that you can crop and it won't matter cause it will still have a high resolution. All i'm saying is: you guys are kind of over exaggerating the truth, it may not be the only feature of a camera that matters, however it is a feature, and it is important.
true, but you don't need a high resolution camera to make a good shot. it will matter when you start to sell your prints, but when you are just learning the basics of photography and are taking a lot of pictures to make sure the lighting/WB is good, you don't need some 24mb+ RAW files from your canon 1ds mk3 taking up all the space on your computer

the only reason you might need more mps is for cropping and/or printing. on the internet you really dont need much at all.

and the bigger the mp : sensor size ratio, the more noisy the pic (on most cameras).
