Ok well for christmas i told my mom i wanted a camera and shes cool with it so i need help with what one to get.

Im thinking a d40 but im not a expert on cameras so if you have any advice on what to get please say it.
Im think shell go for something arpund 500.

i was going to get a d40, but after some research i decided to on a cannon Digital rebel xti. its a little better and id recommend it over a d40. ima get one really soon.

i use the d40.
its a great camera man, its also around 500 (close to it) i have to use it everyday for my school.

D40 has 1/500 flash sync...XTI is only 1/200
XTI has 3fps..D40 has 2.5fps
D40 is lighter and smaller
XTI has ISO 100...D40 does not
D40 is cheaper

some pros and cons of each

Basically the D40 is for first time D-SLR user that doesn't have any lenses or isn't hooked on a certain brand yet.
The XTI is for someone that has used a D-SLR before but is still learning their way around them.
Or thats how I would describe them at least.

I dont get why people get d40s and xtis striaght off,they may get bored of photography(And or) Suck at it so it would be a waste of money

yeh but if ur just gunna start, y start with a shitty digi cam and then have to buy a new 1 wen u progress at photography? when u cand just buy a gd 1 and learn to use that
