Don't go for the MGP for your son's first scooter. It's heavier than he needs, bulkier than he needs and isn't as easily customised as many other brands
Look for something like an Envy (their new complete is the 'king of spades') if you want something he can ride out of the box and have it last. A Razor ultra pro if you want to give him a base to build from. A District complete (v4) if you want something light, but will need some maintenance from time to time.
All of these should run you about the same money, and are all solid starting points.
Be warned, scooters aren't a cheap venture, as you've obviously discovered, be careful... It can be a slippery slope.
