I'm getting a new camera soon, and I'm trying to decide between the HF20 and the HV40. One is hard drive and the other is Mini-DV. Some people say that Mini-DV is better, but why? And which one is more solid/best quality?

Honestly.
Ive had a hardrive cam since the summer and ive never had proplems.
Or lost any footage.

I dgaf what people think.
And hardrives are so much easier to capture footage onto the compute

Just buy the camera YOU want.

Hard drive is so much better. 8GB's on a hard drive is like 90 minutes of filming. So imagine one of those HDDrives with 64GB. I think the only downside of that is when you upload and edit, It takes alot of space on your computer.

Mine is 80 gigs =]
Also whenever you make a video and upload it.
Delete it off you're computer.
It takes up alot of space.

i got the HF20 last night. its soooo amazing. ive always had a hard drive camera. my last camera was a jvc everio (shitttt)

but yeah i say go for the HF20 hard drive is soo much easier to work with

the HF20 has like 4 cineme mode settings. like 7mbps, 12mbps, 17mbps, and 24mbps. the quality on the last setting is crazzyyy

get the HV40. mini dv is better bc you have it on a solid tape. nothing for it to get deleted, lost or fucked up. that is if you take care of the tapes

mini dv has better quality, its true but then you have to keep buying tapes and you can get dirty heads and shit but mini dv is the best choice

Mini Dv IS better so get it trust the smart people who are telling you to get it. It produces better much better quality mini dv and firewire = amazing!
