So I hear everyone talking about the "newest version phoenix". What is the difference between the old ones and these "new ones"?
We did make a running change to our standard decks in January.
When i originally designed the deck i chose to use a 1.5" square tube with 1/8 wall thickness. This is a 6061 tube that i was able to get as a stock item from the same company that does our custom deck extrusion.
In December, Josh Kish called me to tell me that he broke his prototype deck at the headtube where it is welded to the downtube/neck.
After a few conversations with him, i decided it was best to go to the engineer who i used to help me design the deck extrusion and we designed an all new 1.5" square tube. I did not want to just weld an extra plate (Gusset/doubler strip) to the front and call it good.
I wanted the tube to stay 1.5 square so it wouldn't change our decks footspace or geometry so we beefed up the tube internally on ALL FOUR SIDES with custom wall thicknesses and i then sent our design to have a custom die made so that we would have our own proprietary tube. This means no one else can ever purchase this tube, unless they design their own and buy their own die.
This new tube does add about 2 ounces to our decks but obviously it is weight added for the right reasons.
Of the first decks that had the old tube, there were 150 made. Only 50 of those were anodized and the rest were polished.
NONE of the new downtubes has broken!!!! ALL of our decks manufactured after Jan 1st have used this new tube. We DID have one deck that Dylan Hogan got that had a defective brake mounting hole and it broke there, not at the downtube/headtube junction.
We HAVE received a few of the first run back (less than 20) and have warrantied them under our 90 day free replacement policy. I also created an additional Warranty Policy that extends our overall warranty to 6 months. If your Phoenix deck is older than 90 days but under 6 months, you can get a replacement for $100 bucks including shipping.
Keep in mind, there are only a few of us scooter companies who offer ANY warranty to begin with.
ALL Phoenix decks use this new custom extrusion for the downtube including the new Integrated decks.
