Who says they are plastic cores, they could be spoked metal cores. Which is probably why the cores are shiny in the picture.

They improved upon those cores, currently there are Eagle plastic cores being tested, Greg has a set, I rode them, real good park wheels. The PU was a bit soft, but the cores are holding up great last I heard from Greg.
