obviously i didn't mean every other country in the world is socialist. i don't want to have to pay as much in taxes as most socialist countries have to pay. i just think we should stop wasting money on things we don't need, get rid of corruption somehow, and start slowly bringing down the national debt and paying it off, we don't need a whole restructure of the government. i don't think you realize how many people actually love this country and would fight to do exactly the opposite of what you want to do.

again, if i was you i'd just live your little life until you're old enough to move somewhere else that taxes you up the ass, but hands everything to you on a platter and makes your standard of living decent without you having to work for it.

you obviously don't understand the concept that socialism doesnt have to abide by the ridiculous stereotype..

lets look at your brilliant plan.

"i just think we should stop wasting money on things we don't need, get rid of corruption somehow, and start slowly bringing down the national debt and paying it off,"

genius, i mean getting rid of corruption will fix our flawed capitalistic ways of willingly making rich people richer, and stop wasting money on things we don't need, yes, because our capitalistic economy doesnt completely rely on people spending money on useless crap to keep it barely chugging along, and bringing down the national debt, woah man nobel prize status idea right there, lets just pay off a 14 trillion dollar debt while we stop buying things we don't need and thus lessening the need for jobs, while get rid of every corrupt bank and politician. and that will solve the money hording problems with capitalism. great idea man, so good. you should be president.

" without you having to work for it."

WHERE does it say that socialism means you don't have to work? please show me.

"i don't think you realize how many people actually love this country and would fight to do exactly the opposite of what you want to do."

who said it would be a different country??
whats wrong with you? is your dad the owner of wells fargo or something? you actually like competing with other people for useless pieces of paper?

if people are dead set on wanting to compete with other people for paper that would otherwise be useless, a wealth limit could help... maybe... but you want to be able to watch people get filthy rich so they can stare at massive amounts of money they can't possibly use so idk what to tell you.

This would either knockout any drive to be successful (buhbye prosperous businesses), or cause a major black market to ensue so the rich WOULD still get rich, just simply hide all the money from everyone.

just because i don't like this shitty game of capitalism
.

Why? If you want to get rich, you can. Simply have to pour blood, sweat and tears into something you know will work, and over time you can achieve your goals. Our system is flawed, but not that bad....you get out of it what you put in. You want to be lazy and work a part time job at McDonalds? You'll never move out from your roomies apartment and you'll never have money for a car. You want a nice house, red Viper and 2 swimming pools? You bust your ass and work and deal and plan until you get it. The American dream, you can be who you want to be.

no it wouldnt knock out a drive for success. anyone making under the cap would want to reach it, so even if people get to the cap (something like a billion dollars) and dont feel like working anymore, people will gladly take their place. look at that, it would help the cycle flow and stop the billionaires from hording the wealth, and introduce people with different ideas into the companies.

"If you want to get rich, you can. Simply have to pour blood, sweat and tears into something you know will work, and over time you can achieve your goals. '

my dad owns a painting buisness, he has spent years literally pouring blood sweat and tears into it, spending hundreds of thousands on advertising and supplies.... he worked hard to get where he is now, and where is he now? making probably 40 grand a year. getting rich isnt as easy as just working kid, your mommy and daddy might tell you that, but they are wrong. theres a huge element of luck in it.

"You want to be lazy and work a part time job at McDonalds?"

I swear if this was directed at me you're the most ignorant person on sr. you think im being lazy working part time at mcdonalds? right now i have 2 years of college completely planned out, i got the supplies all ready, and im going to start looking into more college after that, id like to get a phd in biochemistry. im working exactly 40 hours a week to pay of my car (because i cant legally go over 40 hours a week), sometimes working for 2-3 different people at the same time... and you think working at mcdonalds is all shits and giggles? go there and work 3 different positions at the same time because you're always understaffed and then talk shit. sometimes i handle up to 2000 dollars ever hour, watching money pour into the pocket of the owner, only to receive 7.50 cents in compensation, less when the thieves at the irs steal some of it .. and you can forget about raises. mcdonalds isnt a job for lazy people, if you plan on working their, plan on working your ass off. and thats if you only work one position at a time.

" The American dream, you can be who you want to be."

that would be fine and dandy if the american dream even existed anymore. its dead, you arent paying attention. the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and no matter how much you work, you probably wont get very far.

you can either start a useless business that will probably be useless due to bigger corporations doing what you're trying to do but a whole lot better, join the corporations and spend decades trying to move up in it, invent something useful that hasnt been invented (good luck with that) or spend half your life in college in hope that when you get out you will finally be able to do what you wanted to do.
20 years ago there was an american dream, but its DEAD. and it will never come back. capitalism does NOT work, people are too greedy for capitalism to ever work. get it through your skull.

back on the topic of occupy wallstreet.

Then simply put he isn't doing it right. I know a guy who started a tanning salon 2 years ago, he now owns 19 of them. Who knows where he'll be in 10 years. Some people have that knack, some don't. Some WANT to get rich, some don't. Some WANT to get rich, but haven't figured out the formula for it and it may take half a lifetime to figure it out.

Kid I have no idea who you are other than you're a 17 year old scooter rider. I did not know you worked at McDonalds, it was a general statement. I also don't expect you to have the world even remotely figured out yet or give a rip about most things. Dude for like 2-3 years OUT of high school, you're still figuring stuff out, what you want to be and where you go, and that's just normal life. Most don't have their "career" figured out until late 20's.

Props to you for having a job at 17, most kids I know don't get their first real job until they're around 20!

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I simply don't find it true. The lazy get poorer, and this country is inundated with people with no drive, no work ethic, and unfortunately, the ability to vote.

Please don't take that as an all sweeping statement, because I do know many good people who have lost it all in this economy. Good people with good work ethic, and no job. Happens in rough times and sucks. But, the american dream can still happen. TSI started making a few one off scooters in their garage a few years back, they are now selling worldwide. I started my business 1 month before my 16th birthday, in my bedroom with a computer and a couple airbrushes. I now own the largest sign shop in town and ship my graphics and artwork worldwide on a weekly basis.

slept on wall st. last night. it was awesome. we had a massive drum circle going from like 8-10pm, the cops shut us down tho. definately going back, its so legit there. there's a whole commune of people helping each other, theres a full kitchen, a comfort zone (for blankets, tarps clothes, etc), a medic area, a media center, tons of books, pamphlets, and tons and tons of people with infinite knowledge. its amazing.

capitalism, socialism, and communism are all flawed and must be forgotten, because they are based on the belief that there are infinite resources, economy and governing on a large scale does not work, everything must be moved to a local basis, and communities must be strong and self sustaining, this is why I'm so glad i live in vermont, clean water, plenty of it, and plenty of land to grow food on, and the soil is fertile as a 22 year old ovulating woman.

"My old college economics teacher would disagree"

cool.

"Then simply put he isn't doing it right. I know a guy who started a tanning salon 2 years ago, he now owns 19 of them."

did i say becoming successful is impossible? no, he got lucky. there is an element of luck in success now that shouldnt be there.

"I also don't expect you to have the world even remotely figured out yet or give a rip about most things."

too bad i do, you just live in this blinded sense of reality that everythings all hunky dory.

"The lazy get poorer, and this country is inundated with people with no drive, no work ethic, and unfortunately, the ability to vote. "

the lazy are homeless, the people who are getting poorer are the hard working middle class.

"Please don't take that as an all sweeping statement, because I do know many good people who have lost it all in this economy. Good people with good work ethic, and no job."

according to you, working will make you rich.

"But, the american dream can still happen."

that shouldnt be there. the american dream should be something guaranteed if you work hard, there shouldnt be this element of sheer luck.

": TSI started making a few one off scooters in their garage a few years back, they are now selling worldwide."

luck, tsi is a company that got involved in an emerging market that could have failed just in time. thom practically gave the rights to his car away for just the extrusions for the flight deck, LUCKILY it payed off.

" I started my business 1 month before my 16th birthday, in my bedroom with a computer and a couple airbrushes. I now own the largest sign shop in town and ship my graphics and artwork worldwide on a weekly basis."
you got LUCKY. you are stating instances where hard working people got lucky and ignoring the fact that 75% of small businesses fail in the first year. you're saying you work harder than that 75% or are you going to admit theres an element of luck?

just because you found success doesnt mean the economy is going fine and capitalism is working. we have a 14 TRILLION dollar debt because of capitalism, we fight wars and people DIE because of capitalism, because of this uncontrolled capitalism, people are allowed to hoard useless amounts of money. we cant continue to let 1 percent of people own 50% of the wealth, we need a more even distribution or we need to get rid of the monetary system all together. if we used food as payments, would it be ok for 1% of the world to hoard half of the food on the planet while the rest who work equally as hard starve to death?

it isnt the fact that sometimes hard working people can make it, its the fact that right now hard working people are working at mcdonalds.

you thing socialism doesnt work? theres 9 countries that place higher in gdp per capita than us.. Luxembourg, Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Netherlands.. guess how many are socialist or follow socialist principals? ill give you a hint, all of them.

seriously though, why am i entertaining this? i made this thread to discuss the occupy wallstreet movement, not to debate about whether or not socialism is better than this free market crap thats ruining this country.

You can't even vote yet and you are telling us how our country should operate. lol. You may proceed with having your thread back.

and because i can't vote means im not able to form opinions about the obvious deterioration of america, but because george bush can vote, he can have valid opinions on the topic.

gotcha, thanks for giving my thread back.

i do NOT want to pay all the taxes that they have to pay though. i heard it was like 50% taxation? that's rediculous, here it's only like 30% or less depending on how much money you make

Depending on what your bracket is, it's can be as high as 51% or around 40 something percent, but regardless you see where your money goes. Break your leg? Go to the doctors for free, not like in Canada where you're stuck in purgatory if you need to get some antibiotics. The cities are beautiful and well kept, you have education, and programs to see clearly where your taxes go.

Fuck if I want to pay 53% of my check either though I'm with you on that. But if I'm taken care of I won't complain
