old a mech on new a deck

heres what i did. i sawed and cut around an old a mech (with broken dropouts) and put it on a new a deck. (kinda like old b mechs). i drilled 4 holes in the middle of the 2 mech rails (threw what used to be the deck) and bolted the old a mech to the new a deck. kinda hard to explain. its not competley done yet, i still have to add reinforment plates.

ill TRY to post pics later if they come out decent. they will be crapy, but you will get the idea.

i did that to my friends scooter before and cut off the top rails so it looked the same as a b mech and intead of dirlling holes and bolting them we drilled them and tapped them and used b mech bolts so it looked the same and was lighter than a b mech cuz how thin it was and had more cut-outs but was weaker cuz how thin it was the holes were almost as big as the rails so it was weak and broke in like a week. didnt move or jiggle at all before it broke though.

Holy run-on sentence batman!

It's a great idea VF, and hopefully it works out well (doesn't snap off when riding or anything)! But being the lazy bastard that I am, I'd just buy a pro-model or an old a instead of switching the foldies around lol...

here it is finished. i just have to smooth down the bottem of the mech alittle to make it alittle flatter. not great pic either.

its just like a stock new a, but instead of the carppy meck i put a old a mech on. i used the same bolts and everything. and the only hard part is cutting the old a mech off the deck. then just drill 4 holes and bolt it on.

Well there's no practical diffrence between the 'crappy' mech and this setup, it's bolted in the middle so the force is concentrated in one point, so it will also rip off the deck easily.

wtf are you talking about. do you not see the new a reinforment plate under the deck. unless your talking about the old a mech like bending and snapping off, iv thought of that. im putting a steel plate inbetween in mech so it wont.

I got myself banned.
Pete's right, the only reasoon the new A mech is so crappy is because the place it bolts onto the deck, in the middle. You using the new A mechs holes is just going to do the same thing to the deck a new A folding mech does, the deck is going to rip apart. The reason switching to a B mech makes the deck last longer is because the holes are closer to the outside making it harder for the deck to tear apart. If you would have welded it right to the deck it would be fine.

yea, i know. but it better than letting the parts go to waste. and plus, im not riding it, my little like 75lbs brother is. so its worth it to me. you dont have to do it.

My brother rode a new a unmodded when he was a little kid and he could only do no footers and bunnyhops over little stuff and broke it in like two months.

thats becasue there so much movement when its not locked. its in good contitiion still, and i even rode it alittle, on stuff like loading docks to make sure it was safe.
