Ordered a Mouthguard. Any stories?

I ordered a SISU mouthguard for my scootering. I've chipped my front teeth multiple times in my life and a few years back in a motocross race I knocked out one tooth, chipped the other, and I was wearing a fullface helmet (end of handlebar must have came up in helmet). I had to have a bone graft and all so now I'm playing it safe.

Anyone have any stories relating to teeth damage? Anyone else use a mouthguard?

I'd recommend getting a mouthguard made by your dentist.
They know their shit and they make them super-dialed.
Sure, it will cost a bit more than a plain one, but at least
it's still cheaper than getting a whole new set of teeth.

i chipped half of my front right tooth just over a year ago. I thought about getting one to wear while riding but couldn't bring myself to buy one and commit to wearing it

i hit my face on the ground. I know how to fall, but sometimes you just get caught up and you cant do anything about it.

Yea i feel that. Sometime it happens. But thats half the fun. If you really feel the need to wear a mouth guard while riding a scooter then scootering is probably not for you.

Please elaborate on this statement. If it took like $10k and a couple years of dental work to fix your mouth would you take that extra step to protect it in the future? Attached are a before photo and a current photo.

Scootering is an extreme sport that comes with risks of getting injured. You can either learn to fall correctly or go out and get yourself a full padded suit to protect your weak body from falls and scrapes. As you can imagine seeing someone ride a scooter with a full padded suit would look pretty ridicules. That's how I feel people look when using mouth guards. It's an unnecessary precaution that I feel people don't need to take and there are other ways to protect your teeth. But aside from that I don't think you shouldn't use a mouth guard in sports like hockey or football where the point of the game is literally to hit each other. Then yes you wear a full padded suit and a mouth guard and you won't look ridicules.

i 100% agree...... learn to fall correctly and you reduce the chances; injuries happen that's what you accept when you start riding a scooter

weak body? lol. I knocked my teeth out flying sideways on a quad (face of jump was muddy and slid out on take of) over an 80 foot double at around 40mph and I had the option to bail and have my quad roll over me while I'm already on the ground and risk breaking my back, paralysis, or worse-or I could hang on and throw my body to the inside and hope for the best. I hung on and no-one knows how I kept from flipping. Strength has nothing to do with it. I had two options in this situation and the one I chose took out my teeth which was probably the safest option/result.

"Falling correctly" meant nothing in this situation and who's to say you know every possible scenario that could happen on a scooter?

It is not common for people to wear mouth guards in motocross races but would it have saved my teeth? Yes

I understand that use of mouth guards will look ridiculous. Other than looking weird how does a mouth guard hinder you? It doesn't.

Just as scootering is seen as a child's sport by many due to what our culture deems is socially acceptable-mouth guards are not socially acceptable where they could be used due to these same reasons. Your opposition to mouth guards is ultimately sourced from the same reason adult scooter riders catch flack-that is, Social Acceptance.

Correct, learn to fall correctly and you will reduce the chances. Chances of injury can further be reduced through utilization of appropriate safety equipment. I am the only person locally that I've seen ever wearing helmet and as of current all I wear is helmet when scooter riding. A helmet has saved my life on multiple occasions.

It is up to each individual rider to decide what level of protection they are comfortable with.

You didn't even get injured on a scooter. You knocked your teeth out on a quad. You're taking a completely irrelevant injury and trying to avoid the same thing from happening on a scooter. That's the same thing as if I got kicked in the shins while playing soccer so I started wearing shin guards while I scooter. I highly doubt you are going to be jumping "80 foot doubles at around 40mph" on a scooter. The only person who should be wearing a mouth guard while scootering is Ryan Williams who is hucking double frontflips over the mega ramp. I am going to assume you are not at his level in which case you can go about no wearing a mouth guard. In a situation where you might hit your teeth it is more then likely that if you know how to fall correctly you would not be hitting your face. My overall view of wearing a mouth guard while scootering is that it looks stupid as fuck it's completely unnecessary. It gives you a false sense of security and you won't put as much effort into falling correctly while wearing the mouth guard. It's just like wearing knee pads. Kids learn to only drop to their knees when they don't land on their scooter and I see kids landing on their knees while doing fly out. How does that make sense? It gives them a false sense of security and they think it's better to fall to your knees rather then simply land on your feet and take a few steps. Falling is part of scootering and if you don't know how to fall correctly you're eventually going to hurt yourself with or without pads. If you think wearing a mouth guard while scootering is really helpful you might as well invest in shin guards, wrist guards, full face helmet and butt pads.

Anton is right you used something that has nothing to do with scootering and decided that your to scared to fall on a scooter so you want to invest in a mouth guard, you know your gonna fall like that happens but your overthinking the whole concept and scaring yourself into buying "protection" when in the end hitting your face is a slim chance that's like saying im not gonna walk across the street because I COULD get ran over; same concept

You have no idea what you are talking about.

When I ride dirt jumps on my bike I always rock a mouthie so I don't go toothless. It's worth it

Who really cares if he wants to use a mouth guard haha.
I smashed one of my front teeth a few years ago when I rode BMX and that doesnt make me want to use a mouth guard. It looks queer and would be annoying but if your parents have spent like 10 k on your teeth then I could understand wanting to use one.
