Pads.

Got to a sporting store and pick up some volleyball knee pads. They fit under my skinny jeans and you can barely see them plus they are super comfy and get the job done.
But they are the equivalent of putting a sock folded in half onto your knee. You bail onto your knee, it will do nothing to cushion the blow. There NEEDS to be plastic over the pad, in order to take the impact, also helps to slide away.

These are the greatest thing invented... i get the youth size. they go a lil over halfway down your shin. fit under skinnys or whatever. i wear em with shorts all the time though. theyre so comfy. i dont like skateboard kneepads because like josh said they slide down my leg all the time. maybe i just had a bad pair though. but these are awesome.
