If there is a band that I want to support I pay for their CDs

Personally I think artists are WAY overpaid considering the majority of them don't even write their own music. The songwriter should get paid more than the person who sings the song

People should be sharing their talent, not selling it. I mean paying to goto a concert is cool, and maybe 5 bucks for a CD, but the artists are scumbags. 1,000 people downloaded your CD, your pissed, why? Because you can't buy another Mercades that your never going to drive and rub it in everyone's faces on cribs? Same goes for professional sports players and actors. Docters should be making millions, they save lives.

Im with most of you on this.

With the money you dont spend on Britney spears new wonderful album it goes to buying something else (eg. things you cant pirate like tv's,clothes etc) so surely its just like a cycle. If 1 shitty artist doesnt get his $$$ for like a couple cds that money goes to supporting some other company in the economy.

I don't really think pirating music effects the economy or a band's paycheck, if anything it can give the band more publicity which can pay off later.

Pirating music probably helps the economy. Half of these big artists and bands don't pay their god damn taxes! If we don't buy their music they are getting less income so they can't evade more of the tax money they owe! I hate rich people... oh i make millions and im single why do i have to pay so much in taxes, im not paying them... my parents have 3 fuckingg kids, work their asses off everyday of their life and have to pay shitt loads of money in taxes, your lazy ass has a fake ass job singing and makes millions, you should have to pay more in taxes for being so worthless!

That's one thing I don't agree with...
Pirating for your own use, cool...but selling pirated stuff...that's where I personally draw the line...

With the recent evenets involving piracy these days (PirateBay trail, biased and maybe bribed judges, law changes...) the whole industry will have to adapt to sharing...
I'm pretty much done with buying original music, knowing that the artist behind the CD won't get even 1$ from the 15-20$ CD

The only people that are sueing sites like piratebay are the middlemans who don't do a shit and just rob artists...
Seriously, if bands want to get payed, then work for it...when I see you live playing, I'll be glad to give money for it (got a U2 ticket for 80$...that says it all...)

Not a fan of pirating everything. I didnt even download music until after my sophmore year. I literally waited to buy Fall of Troy's somewhat shitty Manipulator, than i realized after buying it that i am done with the "buying cd" era and its time to move on haha. I download every bit of music now, BUT if i come across a legendary(to me) cd, such as The Walkmen's "You and Me", i will go out and buy it because it deserves being bought.

Otherwise, i occassionally will dl a software program but not much else.

Also, another note- Online pirating is somewhat new...the generation above us...not many of them know HOW to pirate, etcetc. Our generation though, almost EVERYONE knows how to pirate. If the music industry is going to be hurt at any time, it willl be once our generation has matured into our 40s-50s. Literally every child, teenager, pre-adult, and adult will now know how to illegally obtain files online. lol.

I mean like copying cassette tapes, vhs, that stuff has been done forever. Copying floppy disks was big, my dad has stacks of floppy disks with DOS games on them he would buy for mad cheap versus getting the legit thing (games back then had goofy piracy protection, you usually needed them manual and you would be asked a question when you boot the game and you needed to refer to the manual to answer it, so they could copy the manuals too).

Online pirating just makes everything 10000x easier. Bittorrent and rapidshare are the best things to ever exist. I mean i can just go on a torrent site and find whatever i need. If i don't want to use bittorrent, i can simply search blogspot.google.com to find a link to what i want to download via rapidshare. I love it.
