Defective PROTOS? Nah. How about someone tell me how many I shipped and how many of those wheels came back "defective". If no one can do that then you are running your mouth without facts. The FACTS are majority of the wheels were good, the people who have them love them and the wheels that were bad are being replaced. Yea, a few PROTOS dehubbed AND some people have problems with the bearings fitting too tight BUT Eagle has METAL cores entirely breaking off the hub and their wheels still dehub. Inward makes a good fork but they have had problems with their crown race seats. I'm pretty sure people have bent RF bars (correct me if I'm wrong) and French ID released a threadless fork... without a compression system (in 2008)?? The point is, no parts are perfect especially when it is the first batch (which all of these are with maybe the exception of Eagle). I just think it is really amusing to see how much people favor or bad mouth certain company's unjustly. As far as "defective" wheels being better than other good products... just imagine how good they are going to be when we dial them in. HA! Lighten up.
There's my two cents to defend my company and all the others as well since everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether it's wrong or not.
Are they now defective or not...huh?
About the compression system, it is out as a separate part...and I still have to see a broken FrID fork...wich has been out longer than the proto wheels...and we've all seen the wheel pictures...
And this sir...are the FACTS...
I'm not here to badmouth Proto in any way...but the cockyness + sucking up on the forum these days sky rocketed...it's insane...
Cheers...
Read it again, MAJORITY OF THE WHEELS WERE GOOD. Also, "quotes" mean sarcasm, "HA!" means I'm kidding and "Lighten up." means that you ride a scooter and to stop taking everything so seriously. As for French ID, their compression system was not available
in 2008 so it does not count. Tons of people voted for slaYer bars which were technically released in 2008 but since no one actually received them until 2009 they too did not qualify. Releasing a threadless fork without means to compress the headset is like riding a threaded fork without and top nuts... I'm not trying to bad mouth French ID either because they have the best forks out there right now in my opinion but if you are going to release threadless you have to have a compression system too.
EDIT: Just out of curiosity I took a look at how many votes PROTO actually had. Right now it is at 67. If you assume that each of those votes bought a pair of wheels that would be nearly 140 wheels. I shipped over 500 wheels in 2008 and I have only gotten about 15 back so far. Even if I get 100 back that is still 400+ wheels being ridden out there which is 200 votes. If less than half of the people who have good wheels love them and cared to vote is it really that hard to believe? Is that sucking up or is that a fact?
Also, Nate, I told you what to do to get your wheels replaced. That's fine if you are filming for a video but I am running a business and as soon as the next batch is done I have to have a stack of broken wheels to get them exchanged.
And Tyler, did you let your friends who don't go on SR know that PROTO was exchanging all the bad wheels? Or did you just tell them PROTO sucks and let them get screwed out of $70? And I find it VERY hard to believe that all of a sudden everyones wheels broke right after the deadline. Majority of the wheels that were bad broke almost immediately.
