I got myself banned.
I think its bullshit. Thats like saying its illegal to go over my friends house and listen to one of his CD's. It's just sharing.

mm I see where it's illegal, if it was sharing, and you let someone have the file but then you didnt have it anymore, thatd be one thing, but its distributing it so a ton of people have it, like if the firend let you burn his cd and give it to eevryone. I just don't care though. Plus, God doesn't know binary so he'll never find out.

No, I don't understand why people get all mad about it. Because these people are still getting a bunch of money, and once MTV ruins more bands, they get more money, so no one should be complaining.

i think the whole thing about it is gay... my mom is retarded to, apparently its "illegal" for me to download a cd, but its 100% fine for her to burn a copy of a cd she borrowed from the library or a friend
whats the problem here...i have a couple mp3 is not a crime bumper stickers i got at a cd store a while ago :)

yeah theyre on mtv2 and blow ass anyway. but besides that stealing music has been around for ever just now it's much more accessible to everyone and is much more easily distributed. the record companies site declining record sales as a reason for cracking down on the downloaders but if they weren't money mongering whores in the first place they wouldn't price their cds at fifteen or twenty dollars when some places like bestbuy put them out for eight or nine.

the only people that lose a significant amount money because of downloading are the people who own stock in/have part ownership in record labels...and when i say lose money...i mean they still make a ridiculous amount...just not quite as ridiculous... the musicians do just as well (or poorly) and they're the ones who really matter...

PS...MTV (and when thomas said MTV, i'm going to assume it stood for the music industry as a whole) doesn't ruin bands...bands "ruin" themselves to get on MTV(or on a major label)...but sometimes "good" music trickles through... the new mars volta album was produced by the band's guitar player...and it was on a major label and all over kroq and mtv. it wasn't molded by some slick producer. just because a band has success doesn't mean that it has "sold out". if everyone had a "fuck the industry" DIY "indie" attitude...then a lot of good music would never be made because musicians would need better jobs in order to keep from starving.

(that wasn't a shot at thomas by any means, it's just something that's crossed my mind a lot lately)

you dont need a major label to get noticed...

conor oberst owns his own label and makes absurd amounts of money.
saosin recorded their ep themselves and them printed it themselves and they couldnt keep it in stock it sold so fast...

1. saddle creek has become a major independent label. it's not part of one of the huge record conglomerates, but it's still really big...it has HUGE bands on it whose records go platinum. the faint and bright eyes are both on mtv 2. conor oberst runs his own major label, and there's no way that every band can do that.

2. my band recorded our first ep ourselves and we've gone through at least 1000 copies...that doesn't mean we're noticed. it just means that the kids who go to our shows like our music.

true, im just saying you dont need a huge label or mtv to go big. if youre music is good, people will know about it. even bands on "indie" labels like drive thru go big all the time.

that's true but the exposure is much harder to get when you're small and don't have publicity.
