The shadows, transitions, font smoothing, etc... of any theme will slow your computer down, but not too much.

True. Right now I've got a modified version of Royale Noir as my theme. I had a graphics card driver update and it included a theme editor thing. It's really neat, like now my taskbar is 25% transparent, and when you click and drag windows, they are 75% transparent. Pointless, but neat lol.

Oh and instead of stardock or whatever you guys use, make a new folder on your desktop, drag all your programs into that, and then drag it to the side or the top of the screen, and it will become a new toolbar. You can then move it anywhere on your screen, or put it on your task bar. It's like quick launch, but it's a lot more customizable. It's like having a Mac dock at the bottom, but built in to the task bar. And the best part about it, is that you don't have to download any freeware :)
