Neil is literally my hero. He did something that can never be re-created, and he always maintained an auroa of modesty, despite being the first man to literally walk on a surface that wasn't Earth. Might have happened over 40 years ago now but everytime I think about what it must have been like to look back at Earth from the Moon, it makes me realize that him and the other 11 moon walkers are the people I envy the most in all of human history.
I don't think there's anyone that will be remembered in the same way, not even religious figures can beat walking on the fucking moon.

I wouldn't say he didn't get the recognition he deserved, he was just an incredibly reserved man. Aldrin im pretty sure said he was one of the most private people he had ever met. Better to be remembered as humble.
