I shot some pics in RAW format, but when I upload them they wont show up. Can someone explain to me about shooting in RAW?

because they're actually just data files, not picture files, so you cant just view them straight up.

you need the RAW plugin for photoshop, then you can open/edit them in that then save to whatever jpeg/tiff kind of format you want.

or i know nikon makes a special program for editing raw's, so maybe canon does too?

RAW is just the straight, unprocessed data that the camera receives after a picture is shot. there are different formats for it, like nikon is .nef, i think canon is .cr2 but i'm sure one of you kids can correct me if i'm wrong. they all mean the same thing though, just straight data from the camera unprocessed.

because it's unprocessed, it allows you to change much more in processing like white balance, exposure, and contrast.

the best analogy i heard was that its like digital version of a negative. you have to edit and reprint the negative to get it in a usable form. raw is the same way.

I own SR.
I use Photoshop CS3 on my mac for doing any RAW images. Basically all a RAW image is is a digital negative that you can manipulate your "development".

cs3 is the way to go. or if im lazy and just want to show someone a pic on the internet ill export it to jpeg using google picasa.

yea raw in photoshop is so nice like if you shot with flashes and your aperture was up a couple stops too much and there was some ugly hotspots you could just set it down and the picture would be perfect
