Rusting bars, how?

I love how you all think i'm retarded. My bars are completely destroyed as is. I want to see how it would look on a pair of crappy bars before I buy my new bars and colour them like that. I have no money atm.

I haven't put water near them and they're starting to rust. I'll just keep riding in this canadian heat wave :D

You kids are fucking retarded. Surface rust does not affect the strength of the metal.

Exactly. It's not like the rust is going to corrode the bars to an not unusable strength within this year. My friends have had rusted chromoly cranks on his bike for a year or so and they haven't cracked, bent or anything.

and if you have a cut on your hands and you touch the rust and it gets in the cut, you could get hepatitis. and you have to go to the hospital to get a tetnus shot.

Lol, what are you on about!!!!????

Mikey, once the bars are raw use washing up liquid to remove any oil or grease, this will allow oxidisation (rust) to take place on the surface very quickly. Clear coat will stop the rust when they get to the desired colour, just make sure you degrease them well before coating.

Bam^^

And if it makes you all feel better I ended up sanding away the rust from my bars. Not the greatest looking thing ever. I guess i'll just clearcoat em every month.

Buy the cheapest Clear Coat in the store- they're gonna get nicked up enough a quality Clear Coat isn't worth the coin.

You just need something to stop the transfer of the rust to your hands- it ain't gonna kill ya anyway but it does get all over yer hands.
