i was stupid enough to make my own scs with a shim (no slits, STUPID IDEA), starnut, comperssion cap, and threaded forks. this worked perfectly until it snapped two quad clamps, now i am buying a proto scs and doing it properly but i need to get the shim off the forks so i can use the deck and headset. i also need to have the forks in perfectly working order. i have tried putting it in a vice and pulling or hammering it out, tied sawing it off put still didnt work because didnt want to hurt the forks, i have tried putting the shim in the vice and sinning the forks to loosen it but didnt work and also putting a clamp on the shim and trying to belt it off with the shim on it. the only other way i can think of is to get an angle grinder and cut slits in it but it would be extremely difficult.
