SR fork and ICS problem

I recently bought an ICS and SR fork and it just doesn't compress
I had to slide the fork in to the bars with my full weight and a hammer and it didn't go all the way down so i set my ICS
I kept turning the bolt but nothing happend so i went down to the bike shop and got the guy to help so he started turning it and then i herd a 'ting' every few turns
It seems the star nut just keeps moving down, so i hit it up futher and the same thing happend
Then i thought the pinch should hold the headset in place so i started hitting it with a hammer, didn't budge. i hit it with a 6KG solid block of steel moved a bit
so i kept hiting it and didn't moved then stoped i ended up dinting my bars in
This is what my fork looked like to
sold buy Mathew M. (proto condom for a avitar)

How big is the slit on your bars relative to your forktube length?

If it's shorter that could be the problem.. Not likely though.

Yer I'm using a 1-1/4 starnut which i bought from Lucky scooters (not there fault) , the 2 of the tabs are bent up instead of down.
I have 5mm of slit left untill the top of the fork
A new star nut is $20 from my local
I might just try a 1-1/8 star in a fork tube method for sh!ts and giggles
Any1 got anymore advice?
like how to get the race off thet seems to be some what melted there?
or should u get a bike fork tube (0.120 wall) welded on?

ics works on just about any fork, and it works better than any other system. you can get starnuts for a few bucks on amazon.if its coming loose, you need to use threadlock and lock washers.

Does any 1 think that using a chromo steerer tube off a fit bike fork (0.120 wall) would be worth it?

Problem is that over sized star nuts cost a bit in Australia and to order them postage just kills
and my star nut looks like this
