Stick It To Um

Theres gotta be a way we can get these new members to look at the forum before posting 5 new threads about the same thing that has been posted 5 other times.

I know we can only basically lock them and tell them to look before and give them a link to what they need. Anyone has any idea's that might be of use?

I wish there was like a 5 day period after you sign up and can't post, so maybe they would read some stuff. We need a wiki for the scooter section too..

That idea must be a joke. What would happen would those who have read this forum forever really often as a guest and just haven't registered here just for a reason that they don't need to ask or comment anything (for example from real life, i read fingerflipinc.com forums like 8 months before i saw i need to say/ask something). And what would happen if he has a quick question? He/she registers and sees that he must wait 5 days - wtf.

I'd say that's why we are here for, this is all just the part of the routine that all the members and mods live through when a new batch of members bust into SR.

i agree, i dont think its a huge deal..when i first find a thread it does annoy me but its not bad to have to spend 10 seconds of my life locking a thread every other day or so.

Say if something like that did go into effect, theres always the option to make the forums private so you need to sign up to read them. If they really need to get a question answered, theres the chatbox. It doesn't have to be 5 days, i was just using it as an example.

Picture this... you sign up, you are greeted with a message saying you must wait like 2 days to post. During the time you can't post, look around the website and see if you can answer any of your own questions by reading around. I don't think any features on e107 are like that though...

I own SR.
I personally agree with Brian. I wanted to have a waiting period for new members when I released the newest version of SR a couple years ago because of this problem. If it is really that urgent of a question then they can post in the public forum or use any of the multiple ways of contacting SR (me) in the contact section.

In theory a FAQ section is supposed to solve this too but as we all know no one uses that OR the search engine.

I think we have tried everything else already aside from the waiting period so as soon as I find out how to set it up or if it can even be done on here we will give it a shot.
