Tapering bars, making hic

hey guys im making my own hic set and tapering my cracked 1 1/4 bars.

so i need the height of the internal shim.

i can figure out the taper size and the shim size, but do any of you know it right off the bat? cause that helps.

ok for the taper, it should overlap with the bars a little right? so that means the taper would have to be about 3.5-4 inches?

Now about welding. i was thinking about making 2 welds, 1 on the outside and 1 weld on the inside of the taper, connecting it to the bars. is that how you do it?

the id is obviously the same as the OD of the shim plus a couple thou for clearance. use 1.375 tube with .058 walls.

shim should be like 1.257 od or near that. dont go over 1.278 or so or it wont fit in your bars. you can use some plain .058 1-1/4 tubing as a shim but itll be a little looser.

Make the taper part around 4 inches long with at least an inch or inch and a half of your bars inserted. weld around the outside.

Your done.

Oh and shim length should be like 1/8" or more than however far you fork tube sticks out of your headtube.

thanks dude. does home depot or something offer welding services?

so basically can i just get like 4 inches of oversized bar and weld it to the outside of my suicides, that would work.
