A couple weeks ago, The Over Show took the bus over to Rocklin, CA for the second EPIC Streetpark Scooter Competition. Many of the competition regulars were in attendance, but there were also a few underground riders who made an appearance for the rare, street-style event. Most notable was this years winner, Ronald “Big Ron” Sharpe. Big Ron is widely known for his unique style of riding traditional street spots, though public footage of his skills is few and far between. Ron was busting out switch tricks all over the rails at the park, something few riders attempt. What made this year special was the ability of Ron and several other riders to bust out some insanely technical tricks on the gaps, rails, and ledges. The name of the game this year: Switch, Frontside, and Backside (finally).
I walked away from this competition with the same great vibes that I experienced last year. This is, hands down, my favorite competition because it gives “street” riders a better chance to demonstrate their true skills and add a competition win to their belt of achievements (if they happen to care about competitions). It also gives other riders and on-lookers a chance to see some tricks that you normally wouldnt see at the usual skatepark competition (switch heel-whip to lip-slide for example). The Over Show went out to EPIC to capture all the tricks that went down during the comp, and then some. The video we put together has a majority of the comp runs and a bunch of the insane tricks that went down before the comp began, including Big Rons gnarly rail session (these tricks you wont see in any other video). WATCH AND WEEP…and stay tuned for future one-of-a-kind scooter videos from The Over Show.
