Tig or Mig?

YES I USED THE SEARCH BAR
I got different answers everywhere I looked so i decided to ask about it.


Im making 1 piece bars and the welder does Mig welding.
Is that good or should I find another guy that does tig?

idk man, ive learned a lot of stuff on the internet...
of course, not the stuff i wanted to learn in the first place.

yer mig works fine but is not as clean but if you have a good welder they should be able to do it and make it neat for you

tig=experienced
it prop wont make to much difference tig is cleaner and stronger, but a guy to tig weld something for u will almost cost twice as much

tig is better if the guy doing it knowes what he is doing. mig is clearner if the guy sucks ass. but tig is stronger, more expenive, and way way better

Yeah its a little bit easier to MIG weld, if that matters to you. TIG welding is tedious and annoying, not to mention like bad for you skin and stuff cause of the UV rays.

do not mig chrome-moly bars unless you dont care about strength.

Tig welds most exotic metals, pretty much anything metalic can be welded to itself with tig.

The welds are much stronger than Mig, and have a much better appearance

You should not weld chrome-moly with mig. (It can be done, but will have a poor quality weld because only steel is being added to the weld)

When Chrome-moly is heated up to a molten temperature it loses some of the alloys in it and they must be replaced by using either a stainless steel filler, or a chrome-moly filler rod if it will be heat treated later. (neither of these materials are used in mig welding.)

Use tig If possible, and if you have no way to get that done, have it mig welded if you're desperate.

I own SR.
If they are bars for your personal use it really doesn't matter. TIG is the better choice but MIG will be just fine.

Basically all offroad trucks and buggies have MIG welded chromoly cages and that is pretty much one of the most stressful and demanding environments and they hold up perfect.

i wont ride in their buggys.

Welds on roll cages and frames can crack eventually even if they are welded with TIG, so i wouldnt be riding on a mig welded buggy.

Id rather do something the right way if possible.
