ok so i have been breaking forks alot lately and i decided to make my own.....tell me what you think, i basically used the plate design of the sr fork and the leg design of the fork off of the heavy metal scooter 4.....i need to reinforce the threaded part though because thats where ive eben breaking them recently..what is the best way to do this? using t tubes suck they just bend and allow it to snap...all of my t tube reinforcement havent worked...i was thinkin about dowel but what would be the strongest and not to heavy?

thanks =)

thanks koen.. it took alot of work...i love the way it looks...have you ever found any sucksessful ways of reinforcing forks?

A thick piece of tubing should do it, like thicker than bars so you cant get a bar end in the metal. Mines been in for a while and its not broken.

that is a very similar design to petes/andrew's/mine that I haven't made yet. I'd be interested to hear how you made the attachment groove thing for the bottom bearing race though.

dre its just an old a fork tube welded on to the bottom plate that i made. i was going to make the fork tube out of chromoly stock that was at my dads work but we couldnt figure out how we were going to thread it because we couldnt find a dye big enough to do it...and the cheapest on to buy was like 50 bucks because it was in a set...and i was going to use a compression system but i didnt know where to get an oversized starnut...so i had to settle for a stock tube.....but for the attachment groove if you buy some stock to make your fork you will have to be able to use a lathe...but i didnt take any measurements on that part so i cant really help you with it =-( sorry...

but if anyone is wondering about the tubes, they are a peice of stock lathed out until like 1/4inch from the end where it was welded so that the heat didnt ovalize it

oh and does anyone know if wooden dowel would work good to reinforce it??

you should of just used a thicker neck to begin with so you dont have to reinforce it
but it looks pretty good though

shit, that's a really good idea! props man.

and starnuts come with headsets I believe. If it's too small to fit in your bars, then take a piece of a forktube, or a tube that's exactly the same in terms of id and od, and hammer the starnut into that, then slide it into your bars and weld it/secure it inside well, but make sure the forks can go on without hitting that pipe. then when you tighten the bolt the tube will lock against the top of the forktube because they're the same dimensions, and the starnut will be inside the tube and it will . You could use an oversized bolt (dunno where you'd get that) or a threaded rod that either fits the threads in the starnut, or you could get a threaded rod that fits through the starnut, and weld a nut onto the starnut on top.

Shit, that was lengthy, but yeah..

well when this brakes ill weld a pipe on and use a compression system.. thanks for the compliments guys it was hard to make...and the plate is like 3/16 thick...ill eventually get an oversized star nt and get a peice of threaded stock that fits it...
