weird headtube tightening problem

I just got a new fork to replace the one I broke 2 weeks ago. I reassemballed it with the top bearing cage(the one closest to the bars) with the bearings facing down toward the forks. I then screwed on that top nut that you use to keep the fork straight. I then put one bars and was finished assemballing.

At first my riding was fine but I have noticed after riding and turing for a while, sometimes I will turn the bars and they will get stuck in that position. Also when I go into a turn it sometimes feels like there is resistance in my headtube somewhere, almost like its tightening. It doesnt occur when I dont have weight on the scooter. I can usually get rid of it with a frew barspins, but if I turn a lot or tailwhip, it starts to lock up again. Also my headtube is kid of wobbly, I know it isnt because my foldy mech isnt bolted, its even more so now then before.

Why is this occuring and what must I and others do to fix this problem?

try to loosen the head set. and the bearings you set on the fork put the opposite way. that might help. dunno thats how i put it on haha.

the bearing balls in the headset point towards eachother. so on top the balls are facing down, and on the bottom the balls are facing up

Thanks Nick, I tried to reassemble it tonight and the top bearing cage is pretty well shot and one bearing is missing. Also, the bearing seal?(thin washer looking thing on the bottom headset bearing cage) was broke so I took it out. My question is, how long can I ride with said conditions?

Ive tried lossening the headset and resetting the bearings, but it still freezes up on me. Last night it froze up so bad that I couldnt move the bars (and had to bail). Do you still think its the headset or maby the messed up top bearing cage?

ryan. budday. go lock your mech. you should know how to do it...after SEVEN PLUS YEARS OF RIDING....i'd hope one would know how to modify a scooter to simply have a locked folding mechanism...

The only reason I dont bot my foldy is because I like to be able to fold my scooter. If there is a way to bolt it and get it to still fold, by all means, show me.

Will an FSA bearing cage fit a stock steertube and fork?

If you wanna fold it when its bolted, just take the bolts out and put them back in after?
And to fix the problem, make sure the bearings are pointing towards eachother (Bottom cup>Top cup) and pour a whole loada grease into it.

do NOT do that.

grease = bad

3 in 1 oil = good

and if all you have is grease, don't put that much in. a little bit will go a long way.

You can buy a new FSA bearing cage for $8 from their website. Do that.

Also, lock your damn foldy already.
I don't think that bearing cage will fit in a stock headset, my bearings fell out and went all over and i tried to put an FSA set of bearings in, but the circumference was too large.

Take all the shit out of your headtube, all the guts, then bolt the bottom 5/16 hole and the slot 3/8 hole, then when you want to fold it, just get a set of pliers or whatever and loosen it then push it up and fold.

I do know what a locked foldy is, I just choose not to for portibilitys sake. Another question, how do you get the top nut that holds the bearing cage off? Ive tried pliers but they just slip off.

Why would you care about folding your scooter ?
