Well I'm pretty sure you can't weld 2 different materials, and I'm guessing they're chromoly. Idk why they would be aluminum.

You'd probably want the HIC size tubing to overlap the 1 1/4 tubing at least 4 inches.

yeah make sure you sand the bottom of it where your going to weld so it looks clean.
overlap like an inch of it
HIC shims are only 2-2.5 inches

You don't need more than 2 inches. I rode some Tapered Rad OG bars that where tapered for like 4-6 months and the overlap was about an 1.5"-2" you dont need anymore than that.

i used 8 inchs of 1 3/8s chromoly that i got from some old lucky HIC bars and then overlapped them by 2 inchs and got then TIG welded by a friend, u dont have to overlap them with 2 inchs u can just do 1 inchs, and u dont have the use such a large tapper either the reason mine is so big, 8 inchs is because i cut to much metal off the buff bars

also, ive heard from a few people that chromoly can only be TIG welded. it wont bond rigtht or itll warp if you just mig weld it. so ask ur friend if thats the kind of welder he has
