today i sent an essay to rye airfield:
Rye Airfield Owner/Manager,
My name is Matt Dibble and I am from Westfield, NY. Some of you at your skatepark may know about a sport that is getting more and more recognition, scooter riding. Rye Airfield, having amazing facilities for all levels of riders, would be an ideal spot to have a demonstration or competition. Scooter riding has come very far from those annoying 5 year old kids who can't push at your local park. I know this because I have seen it first hand, amazing tricks have already been done and with scooter riding being such a relatively new sport there is so many more tricks and terrains to discover.
Scooters have been gaining respect from big names in bmx such as Scotty Cranmer, who is closely involved with The Incline Club in Lakewood, NJ. That is a local park for many riders with talent. So far The Incline Club has held two seperate competitions for scooter riding, one in february of 06' and the other in march of 07'. Scooter riding has even been featured as a mainstream action sport in Australia, where they were highlighed in front of many at the Planet-X Games.
The competitions I am most familiar with, however, have been held in Buffalo, NY at Xtreme Wheels Indoor Skatepark. The past two competitions there (July 22, 2006 and July 14th, 2007) have both went amazingly well. Virginia, the skateparks owner, is an amazing owner who is very dedicated to providing a place for action sports of all types, and her park shows her dedication. I personally worked through the entire process from idea to finish with helping organize, advertise, and actually having the competition. We had sponsors such as Red Bull, Sony Music, Enemy Opposition, Razor USA, Micro Xtreme, Exode Wear, Whip Scooters, and more. The entire scooter community worked together to pull out a huge success for the competition, giving out many great prizes in merchandise and cash as well. If you have any more questions at all about that specific scooter competition do not hesitate to contact Virginia directly, she gets all of the e-mails and is a great person to work with.
info@xtreme-wheels.com is the email address and be sure to mention my name (Matt Dibble) when contacting her.
So, before i get too detailed into this, I would like to know who I am contacting at this e-mail address, and if it is the owner/manager of the skatepark, I'd like to hear your thoughts or concerns on having a type of scooter demo/competition at the park. At the bottom of this e-mail i will leave a few links to different videos and that where you can see scooters in action, believe me it has grown up a lot from the toddler toys you may think them to be. I am willing to completely dedicate myself to the project, if its decided it would be happening, and propose possible dates. I was looking at the calendar of events/special events you had something for June 21st, and the next one is listed for August 18th. Somewhere throughout August 8th-15th would work best for me getting to it, but if that is not available for you I can check other dates as well.
Please contact me back
and thank you for your time,
Matt Dibble
