^ Yeah, I hate the way it looks too. Aluminum pegs in general are just trash imo. They barely fit any good forks/decks and they wear down too much.

You could take it to an engineer and get them to turn it down to the diameter of the dropout recess.

Or you could just do it on a lathe...but there's a reason they're that thick, if they were as thing as Chromos they'd snap. Pegs go through a TON of stress. I bend >grade8 axles all the time, and I don't even ride that hard.
