The FH1a is high quality but the colors are really plain, in my opinion. They're boring. On eBay, you can find Canon Hf10/20s for around the same price and the colors are a lot better. Other good cameras include-
- anything in the Canon Vixia series. HF10/20/100/200, HG20/200, HF M30/M31, etc. NOT THE HF-R SERIES.
- JVC GZ-HM series. Cheapest thing you'll ever find, I bought mine on eBay for $80 refurbished. Filmed this with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nWBBjMEloU The fisheye shots are blurry because it needs a spacer to focus properly.
- Panasonic TM series.
- Canon HV-series. All Excellent cameras.

All those cameras are simple point-and-shoot cameras, if you want something that's "VX-like" then I'd get a Sony TRV900/950, Panasonic GS320, or even go prosumer and get a Canon Gl1/2. Those can be found for like 200-300 on eBay now.
