maybe your bearing spacer is too wide.

because wood fatigues over time. it just cant handle the pressure. since wood comes from a tree, it is made up of a bunch of cells which are like little chambers, and after a while, the chambers sort of cave in, making the wood shrink.

try laying your deck perfectly on its side so the spacers dont slide around as much.

that isnt going to stop the wood from shrinking. the tape will just keep the extenders attached to your bars, but it wont stop them from wobbling.

The wood will still decrease in size, and fall out.

That's just the wooden dowel method. After a while, the wood will start to shrink, and the extenders will fall out.
