I barspin with 22"s all day long without a problem. I can even bar 24" if you give me some. If you do have a problem with 18's you will adapt super fast. You might have to drop the front a little when you do them. Actually I think it should be easier to grab and it wont seem to spin sooo fast...

Don't get the 50mm, definitly get a 35mm instead much better and will out perform any 50mm. More benifits for getting a 35mm and none for a 50mm.
