A Thought on scooter from a different view

This isn't just my opinion or beliefs but a subjection of my usual views.

Fact is that most of the stuff scoots do today was and still is influenced, maybe not consciously but nonetheless by the other 2 sports almost entirely, the market was built on them foundations, thats where the "claim" of originality is astronomical comedic value for bmx/sk8 and one of the whys scoots get shit put on. You think there isn't a way through, not around this? Then stop reading here.

Many might believe the stigma of the craze that scooters went through is holding it back but that is only a fraction of the issue.

I have no problem admitting that its different from within but from an outside scooters point of view it isn't, it's very vague, a cut and paste job of the others.
our own ideals of what scooters are to us alone WILL be the rot from the inside out, we must define ourselves before someone goes thru with dealing the death of the market which is pushing the progression not holding it back. We live in a fast, convenient never more than a message away world you would be "led" to believe, that'll happen when you let those who know more of the bigger picture run the show for you to watch or at best interact with.

Some might think that refinement is needed as that happens once left to our own devices, isolating the sport but that can kill it too.

A collective approach using the dead but still visible roots of the others as a learning curve is what is needed to attain the what you may call "unnecessary" acceptance, i still do wonder why do the kids try to fight for it still.

I dunno the way I see it, the market or industry kinda works in a similar way to skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, ect. because they're all similar. Its kinda like music. All different instruments are different and unique in their own way, but the industry is universal. As for what others think of scootering, and what the scene is like, I see so many kids ripping so hard all the time, its amazing how fast the bar has risen for riding. I see a lot of hope in the future of scootering, I think its pretty fucking tight. The scenes all over the world are constantly getting better, we just need to keep supporting the right companies and voicing our opinions.

The problem is when you google scooter stuff you see the park rat stuff that turns the other sports off and they never dig deep down enough to see the part of the sport that we tend to see more of imo. Makes it easy to insult scootering when they believe that those are the people we ALL look up to. Also people judge us based on the snaking kids when nobody blames skaters or bmxers for little kids on bikes or skaeboards. I honestly get snaked by stoned skaters more then scooter kids. (Also non stoned kids on mountain bikes at skateparks)
I think we need to try to show the side of the sport as much as we can though. The locals have all gained more respect for scooters since I have been riding with them so I hope as I progress I can helpbe a part of at least a small change. Most dirty looks disapear when you are better then them haha

I am often irritated by the stigma of scooters but I guess if I were looking at it from an outside perspective, I might not respect scootering because I do not really know scootering. The legit companies, riders, and videos are kind of underground while "scooter kid" type of stuff is mainstream so that defines scootering for most people. I have actually been thinking a lot lately about the skate and bmx influences on scootering and I never really thought of it as a reason to hate. Skateboards and bikes are, in a way, a more original design then scooters, but in 2015 I feel like not many things are very original. When I consider different aspects of scootering that have been influenced by bmx or skating, I think it's cool to see and experience. While these influences are apparent, there's a whole different culture in scootering.

I do think acceptance of scootering is unecessary, and while I want it, I also get a thrill out of it not being accepted. But I just have an urge to be socially unacceptable haha. The stigma around scootering pushes me to rep scooters and gain (unecessary) respect from people. Simply being confident (and maybe a little steezy) about the fact that I scooter is what has changed many people's opinions of scootering as a whole. Sharing vids from companies like proto or dissedence to social media is a great way to improve scootering reputation. So is repping and riding parts from rider owned companies. I think on a large scale, the predominant companies in the industry have the most influence. So doing anything to give rider owned companies more recognition is probably the best thing for scootering.

Personally, I just like riding my scooter and I don't worry about scootering as a whole. I feel like whatever happens to scootering as a whole will not affect the enjoyment one gets from riding. Unless maybe some scooter opposing skaters beat you up or something. Or maybe if you're embarassed because of the reputation but that's your own fault.

May I inquire as to why people are concerned with the path scootering is headed???

People are concerned because for many, scootering is their livelihood. You have people like Andrew Broussard, or Collin Snoek, whose entire careers are based off designing, manufacturing, and selling scooter parts. An industry decline would call their job security into question.

It's as simple as supporting the brands you want to see flourish that will determine the direction of scootering. Image is based largely off marketing, so if more exposure is granted to the brands you 'agree' or side with, then scootering will begin to take that shape. It's a bit like survival of the fittest and by extension evolution (this might be a stretch though haha).
