is it just me? i think that if you hit a launch ramp that the same heighth as the ground you go higher than hitting a really high launch ramp

I think he means if you hit a launch ramp where the lip is equal to the landing, like a launch out. And no, you wouldn't. At all.
 
He prolly thinks that hitting a kicker gives more time in the air than a boxjump/flyout since you have to drop down from the kicker's height to the ground. But the same amount of time in a flyout would result in less impact when landing cause more of this time is spent on going up (and on a boxjump you can go even bigger and land in a slope/tranny), his theory is only right when you're a noob and suck at airing stuff, no offence.
