Ethan FUCK I just wrote so fucking much and it got highlighted and deleted and wouldn't let me undo it so fuck here it goes again. I think style should be about self-expression, it should be about the feeling of style, not the way it looks. Other people don't see your style, style is something you feel within your body when you ride, its not something you do to make your video or competition run do better. Style is what separates my front boards and overcrooks and backside airs and heelwhips from yours because my body is different then yours and I ride different shit than you, just like everyone else's body is different from you and from me. Style isn't something anyone can fully understand, its something people can feel. Style can't be described; you can't prescribe it wordly parameters, once you do you've missed the point completely. You can't be imitating other people because then you aren't adding to the pool of love and feeling that should be the scene, you're adding to a wishy washy bullshit arena of people all trying to be better that the person everyone thinks is the best. You can't be the judge of someone's style because you can't feel their life, their loves, their injuries, and their body, but you can fucking tell when they are doing it right, and you know it. You can tell when someone doesn't give a fuck what tricks they are doing and is happy because of the way they feel, not the difficulty that the community has associated them with. You can tell when riders are trivially searching for self-gratitude and peer appreciation, they are always sweating and trying the trick their friend just spent a week learning. Their videos look like a lot of other ones. because they think they need to one up those. But really, they need to take inspirations from others. After they get that inspiration, they add their own twist to it and add it back to the community for more people to work off of. This creates an interwoven scene of styles and self expression that I feel a certain part of scootering definitely is working towards. And no, this isn't saying working your ass off isn't something necessary, it takes thousands of hours to figure out the way to ride the way you want to and to learn the physics and logistics of the way your body works with a scooter and what situation they work best in. But most of all, its about having fun and loving your life. So "fake steeze", in my opinion, will simply be a slowing force on the imminent progression of the scene to levels we can't even dream of.
