BAD bars - Rad bar alternative

CAUTION: I'm NOT trying to stop anyone from buying RAD bars, this is just a solution for people that live too far to order them, RAD bars are way better than this, I think.

Right, so lately my T-tube breaking rate has amazingly increased, so I thought to make a steel one. I bought two steel pipes today, its some standard kind of steel, not 4130 or anything (if I wanted to make a 4130 one I would probably have to order a bunch of 20ft long pipes or something, instead of a 2ft long one). I still have to weld and bolt them though, heres a pic of how it looks unwelded. The longer pipe goes all the way down into the fork so it also acts as a reinforcement. The bars are wider than standard ones, Im not sure if I will like that but if I don't, I can always take a saw and cut it. Here's a pic of how it looks unwelded and unbolted, Ill post next ones when it will be done:

nice going dude :D All the way down? Lol, steel is heavy, but i think it wont change the weight of the scooter so much, besides its gonna reinforce the fork which is nice too.

If this isn't stainless steel, then you gotta paint it when you're finished welding or else you would fuck up the steel.

Yeah its not stainless as you might see, the long one was totally coroded when I bought it so I had to work a bit with the sandpaper. And yeah its gonna be painted.

Edit: according to my earlier calculations the bar weighs like 2 kilos, (a stock scooter weighs 3kg) but now it doesnt seem really heavy. It still weight 2 kilos though, the scooter will be heavier but still ridable. Its still nothing compared to a bike.

Some question to Rad bar owners: how heavy are they, how thick is the tubing and is 4130 lighter than 'standard steel'?

I'm not a Rad bar owner, but rad bars are quite the same as like regular razor tubes. The weight depends on the height of the bar but its a small diffirence - Cory has said it before (either on SR and/or radskootco site).

Like i've heard from my tech friend (studied metals in university) and done a little research myself earlier, chromoly 4130 is a steel alloyed with chrome. It should weigh the same as standard steel.

Well, if you are after your weight of your scooter (don't know if this 4-5kg scooter will affect scooterflips), then here are some my ideas:
1) you could cut the bars, lock it on top of the JDBug headtube and saw out a piece from the bar tube for forktube reinforcement.
2) loose the JDBug headtube since the bar will go in the forktube, and get some smaller-diameter clamps to put it on the forktube.

chrome+molybden if you wanna be exact. You dont have to study metals, just figure it from the name.
And Brian, read once again that its not stainless, unless you didnt want to imply that.

dude thats sweet. also if you just wanted the width you could get a straight tube to go through the little top thing were your grips go in. (about 15") and drill and bolt. you guys should see the new design for bars cary is running a prototype. these ones are seriously sooooo much stronger with very little weight added. i cant really describe them. the bars are peirced through the steer tube and there is a gusset under each bar. so strong and sweet looking. all i need is some money to make them and i will start selling them again. but ya thats a sweet set up you got there.

Cory, thats a great way for a commercial success, relase a good product, everyone buys it, then make an upgrade and everyone has to throw his bars away and buy new ones, haha. You can also sell a cheaper 'Rad bar mark I' and 'Rad bar mark II'.

nah i just wanted the bars to be indestructable. like so anyone who buys them will NEVER have to buy again. im not trying to be comercially succesful haha their scooter parts...... but ya it costs money and time and ive been working on stoopid decks so cary and others can test and if they are cheep enough and good enough we MIGHT sell them.

sorry if this is sort of off topic, but id like to thank cory and whoever else for making and selling rad bars..i never really realized just how strong they are until the other day, trying something the fell about 8 feet to the top of the bars about 100 times and arent even bent..my scooter has gotten shot around trying flairs and other shit, and they are still fine.

I'm kinda pissed, we didnt manage to bolt the bar as it was impossible to drill through a steel tube with a steel drill, you know. But anyway it shows how tough the bar is. Ill have to wait till monday, my grandpa will give it to the workshop where he always has his car repaired, they have a big ass driller and they should do it. Its still ridable a bit, cause after putting on two coats of paint it became wider so it didnt perfectly fit in the tube. We were struggling to push it into, thus ripping of some of the paint. It didnt dry off completely so now its like glued with paint, same goes for grips. Maybe tomorrow we'll do some testing on flat. I just checked it standing on the ground, its not much heavier, and its possible to whip it around hella fast, also the motion of a briflip is diffrent, kind of better, but I dont think Ill be close to scooterflips on flat anytime soon (I had one foot on them both directions today with an aluminium bar).
