well first off why would you allign the slit on the shim with the slit on the bars?
thats just plain stupid and my bars have never got stuck and idk how yours would get stuck
maybe the slit is to small so it got stuck once you tightened it

I tried to pry the slit bigger but when i try to turn the bars and wiggle them off the shim moves with the bars and I can twist my fork with out the bars moving.

your top cap is to big..you need to screw the bars off( just keep twisting to the left and pulling) then grab the shim with pliars and get it out. then get the top cap off. file it down then your good to go

clearly if your using hic then the cap is stuck in your bars. Put your fork in a vice of between your feet and twist your bars counter-clockwise (to the left (to the left ohhh) everything you own in that box to the left) that direction) and then your bars should come off and you might have the cap still stuck in them. When this happened to me I shoved a flathead in the slit and pulled down to get the cap out. Once it's out you should file the edges down so it won't ever get stuck.

sounds like you just need some elbow grease and patience.
just dont twist your bars to the left because the compression will loosen and the shim will come off into your bars, giving you a bigger problem hahah
since there is a lip on the bottom of the shim try prying the bars from said lip. Work your way around the whole thing and voila.

Not a problem actually. If the shim comes off you just grab it at the bottom and pull out. If the cap gets stuck then all you need to do is pry it out with a flat head or something.

this same exact thing happened to me today

what i did was i twisted the fork to tighen the HIC as much as possible but i kept the bars still then when it got as tight as possible i put kept the forks still and turned the bars clockwise i kept turning the bars to the right in a tightening motion and it slid right out

what shim are you using and what forks are you using? new lucky shims and phoenix phorx dont work well so i got a shim with one slit to fit snug over the fork (which the new lucky shim didnt fit snug)

let me know if that works for you

Doesnt work. I Tightened the headset all the way and i tryed to put the bars over the shim but it wouldnt go on easy so i took it outside did a couple of ollies and the bars went all the way down but the headset got loose again and the bars wont come off

bunnyhops*

but try twisting the bars to the left to loosen the bolt on the shim, if it work the shim will come off then all you have to do is take the shim out of the bars.

I got it out but the shim is kind of bent will I still be able to use it like that ? also i used a FSA Pig DH Pro Top Cap Before and the kid I bought it from gave me it with a Regular FSA Pig Headset and it work fine for him so should I use that top cap instead ?
