i just cleaned my headset with paint thinner... spins fine now, but should i lube it up with engine oil / motor oil???

You will ruin the headset if you run it dry. You need to use some kind of lubricant.

lol thanks - i used motor oil and it spins for ages for 30 seconds to be precise!
