Bolt size for compressions system

Searched, only results were "Compression Bolt" Never said the measurements. So, will a 8 inch long bolt that is 3/16 diameter work? Because I tried a 1/4 and it didn't work. Just a quick yes or no answer from someone WHO KNOWS!!! So that this retarded thread can be locked quickly
