Allright! I'm building my own video camera like this one:
The price of that is about $700 ($400 for the digital 8 recorder, $50 for the camera, $180 for the lense, and ~$70 for the viewfinder, plus the cost of the mounting brackets and batteries)
and I thought I could save a bit of money, since I allready have 2 security cameras (not very good, but it'll be easy to upgrade), 3 lenses that will work, batteries, welding materials to make the mounting brackets, and scrap cameras to make the screen/recorder
now the hardest part is the recorder, because if you buy cheap, you get bad quality, but i'm not willing to pay $500 for a new recorder.
An option I have found is to nigger rig my ZR-85 to use video-in, but I have no clue about the wiring and stuff, so I found a $150 aiptek camera at Target, and it records from anything with component out, like a security camera!
now this camera also includes a remote that could be monted on the handle for easy access to the record/pause buttons, which is extra brownie points in my book!
As for the screen, I will either use my ZR-85 screen, or, my church uses the screens in the first two pics, so I could get one from them or get a church discount on them, since I work as a techie there.
so now, we have:
camera
lense
batteries
screen
recorder*
stars indicate where I need help. I really don't know about the recorder, and is there a better one than the aiptek thing, preferably cheaper? I am on a budget this time, and cheaper is better
another option for the recording is to go directly to a small hard drive, probly not more than 20-30 gigs:
The only consern is price. It will hold more than the aiptek for shure, but is it worth it in the end?
the price for it is about $180 for the adapter and $600 for the hard drive, and yes, it needs to be that specific hard drive...
and they record to the same format, mpeg4
I WILL be doing this, and I don't need coments that say like "oh you can't do this" or whatever.
