Buying a camera

I'm in the market for a new camera, and I'm not sure what I want.
I'd like to hear some advantages/disadvantages to SD vs. HD,
And some quality camera's in each field.
I have about a 650 dollar MAX budget, so yeah.

Each can look great if you know how to use them. There are only a handful of SD cameras that produce good quality footage, but plenty of HD cameras that perform well. Personally, I would rather see a video shot on a VX/MK rather than one of the many Sony Handycam/Opteka X Grip/Baby death setups that are so very common with scooter kids.
Newer HD cameras are generally easier to use, with HDD and Flash memory. But, your computer has to be pretty beefy to be able to edit good HD footage.
SD cameras use MiniDV tapes, which require you to playback the footage and record it into your system, which of course, is a real pain. But, SD footage is a lot smaller of a file and you don't need to be using a transformer to edit it.

There are the pros and cons to each side, it all comes down to knowing how to use your setup and personal preference.

I've been more interested in SD setups.
There's a pretty good deal on a gl1 near me, but I've heard some people talk about the gl1 not being so great. But at 425 it isn't a bad deal.
Also, I still don't know how to get sd footage on my laptop.
If someone could link me to a tutorial or something on that it would be cool because I have a bunch of old tapes from a trv-250 my dad used to have.

Also, I have a MacBook Pro so handling footage isn't a big deal.

I shoot HD and have wanted to go to SD for a while, but I have the same problem.
If your laptop has an expresscard slot, you can get a firewire to expresscard adaptor. My laptop doesn't have a firewire port nor an expresscard slot, so I'm fucked. I'm pretty sure that is the only two ways.
