Well last night on the way home from seeing jackass 2 we got in a car accident. We are going about 55 and he puts the car in neutral (big winding road on a hill) and we're just cruising along. Its all cool and fun and im sure a bunch of you have done it, just coasting along.
Then he just shuts off the ignition... just...becasue... no real reason. We're still just coasting and its pretty cool just coasting. And we are still going down the hill and hes using the brakes and steering and stuff. The driver says, "i don't like doing this theres no power steering or power brakes" and im just like "than what the hell is the point of having a key in it at all? lol" I was being somewhat serious though i didnt know what else would really happen.
So he just is like "the wheel locks up, see" and he takes the key out of the fucking ignition. He then proceeds to show me that the wheel does in fact lock up. We are now going about 60 or so down this hill with the wheel completely locked up and no power brakes or anything. He had planned on putting the key right back into the ignition but couldnt find the hole is what he told me later. I think he just basically froze up from being scared.
We crossed into the other lane of traffic.... and luckily no cars are coming... then we get to the white line on the other side of the road and he still hasnt gotten the key back into the ignition yet so he slams the brakes (he didnt use them at all before so we were going anywhere from 50-70 going into the ditch.. again not to exaggerate ill say about 60). He keeps pumping the brakes and stuff but cant really keep control becasue there is no steering..
We go way up on one side of the ditch and then come back down... still braking.... I dont remember actually doing it but we were way up on the bank when we first got in the ditch and when we were up there we hit a bush, then went back down into the ditch and like straddled it still braking.
The car finally makes it to a complete stop. He just slams the key in the hole and revs it up and starts going... spinning like crazy turning and shit as an attempt to keep traction... then a mailbox comes up on the right (note: when i went back today i saw we had enough clearence of the mailbox but last night we just saw it and tried to get out of the way) so he turns to the left to miss that. Somehow he does manage to use the momentum from the left bank to somehow get back on the road.
I don't know how we managed to get out of that with abosultely no damage to ourselves or the car, and it just definately makes you think a lot about how stupid drivers out there really are, and just be careful who you ride with. I know it definately makes myself want to be a much safter driver even though i still probably wont follow every law all the time (no one's perfect).
skidding off into the ditch
----also in the far distance you can see the mailbox, after that mailbox is where we came out... we were in the ditch for awhile
After we first went in the ditch we went up onto this bank thing, in the next picture it has the bike there for comparison
Just to the left of the green grip on the bike is where the left 2 tires of the car were and right about where the back wheel on the bike is is where the right 2 tires of the car were (you can clearly see the track). Bike shows the steepness of the bank.
View from actually on the bank, skidding through part of that bush and back down into the actual ditch part of it
Right where the water gets deep there is where we finally came to a complete stop, Right when we did he put the key in the ignition and started turning the wheel and stuff so he didnt get stuck, he did get it going slowly but spinning alot as the picture shows
You can see that he swerved up to the left (avoiding the mailbox.. not in the picture..) and then somehow just used the momentum to get on the street. Its something crazy and retarded i really wish i never get to repeat.
