Catch or No Catch?

When you first learn a trick, do you try to catch it? Like when you were learning your first tailwhips or barspins, did you go for just landing it or catching it and then landing it. And not only whips and bars, other tricks too. For example: When i first learned my tailwhips(off a kicker) I Waited for the entire deck to come around, then hit the floor and then i would put my feet on it. But when i was learning Double whips i basically starting catchin them right away. So which do you think is harder catch or no catch? And which did you learn first?

Back when i started riding, catching was optional... if you aren't catching your tricks now you got some work to do

Catching it is necessary if you want to do it on anything but flat ground, so it's pretty much useless without the catch. Think of it like a barspin, would you do it without a catch?

For everyone saying that catching is needed for anything other than flat, your wrong. When i first started whipping sets i didnt catch. I whipped it really slow and it all came out good. I whipped a six without catching and landed it. But i do catch my tricks now and have been catching them for a while.

They aren't saying you need to, but for someone to not catch a trick and make it look good is like finding a needle in a haystack. I can't name anyone off the top of my head that can whip a 10 stair and not catch it and ride away without it looking like your large intestine just shot out of your asshole when you landed and is dragging away on the ground while you roll away. Catching is necessary, especially for the sake of your heels and for the camera's lens if one is present.

i used to just not know how to catch whips and couldnt whip anything bigger then a 3. then my friends were whipping more and more stairs so i was sick of being the only one that couldnt so i just learned them flat then down 5,6, and 7 stairs

I never really learned any tricks with a catch because I learned all the basics way back before anyone really worried about it. I'm pretty sure I learned to catch triples before I learned quads, and that's kind of the mentality I go by now, is if you can catch a trick you can take it to the next level. I try my hardest to catch any trick that I take my feet off for. It looks better and it's way easier to pump after a trick if your feet are already in position on the deck ready to stomp it

Word, I learned to do tricks first, then catch them tricks. It makes your style look better and clean.

Yeah, but it looks nasty and you go through decks a hell of a lot faster. Catching isn't a must, but it definitely helps, and looks much better.

And it feels amazing when you catch tricks rather than just landing them without catching a trick.
